Ruger 77 Bolt Shims include 2 x .001" and 2 x .002" for a total of .006" potential adjustment. Most likely you won't use more than 2 of them but you can stack all 4 together if needed. The Bolt Shims will ensure the bolt is tight against the breech. As you noticed that the bolt is in two major separate pieces there is a bit of slop between the two parts due to natural manufacturing tolerances. As a way to ensure ultimate precision we've developed this kit to assist you in ensuring that the 2 pieces of the bolt are tight against one another. The shims will also ensure that the bolt and breech are tight enough to prevent light strikes and misfires. The Ruger 77 Bolt Shims will not affect the actual head space as the head space is in the machined recessed face of the bolt.
